During Futex, the European Technical Textile Convention, held in January in France, various technical textile innovations were presented. For example three garments, interactive or executed with Leds.

The 'mood-revealing' sweater designed by Kristin Neidlinger, a former dancer, specialist of dance medicine and designer of kinetic costumes, detects the wearer’s excitement level and describes it according to a range of predefined colours. The high collar is an external indicator of emotions, giving colourful expression to inner feelings; operating by sensors, i tacts as a biofeedback mirror of the user’s emotions.

Interactive Garment

Ying Gao is inspired by urban and social transformations, which she transposes into the world of fashion. Jacques Tati’s film Playtime featured a world in which ultra modern architecture and surveillance were omnipresent, with a plot constructed around mirroring effects and trompe l’œil. Ying Gao takes up on these reflections on the perception of the environment, adopting them to her own purpose : her interactive dresses, made from the organza product by the Amaike firm, reacts to flashes and cameras, which therefore makes it difficult to capture them in photos.

Illuminated textiles with Leds

TITV Greiz modified conventional embroidery machines so that it can be used in th fully automated fabrication of conductor paths, placement of components and contacting of Leds. The innovation is based on the multi-head embroidery machine type made by Tajima GmbH and the newly developed functional Led flex substrate - Functional Sequin Devices (FSD).

For the first automated manufacter of illuminated textiles with Leds worldwide, sequins used as fashion elements were modified so that they can serve as carriers for Leds or other components. The novel manufacturing technology allows the installation of components on textiles in a fully automated process now.
