Stitch & Print International 2011 Number 2

In this edition

With this magazine we try to inform you about the latest technology – relating to machines and materials – in the professional textile-decoration market. This can be done by any kind of technique: digital printing, screenprinting, embroidery etc. And, of course, we keep you posted with other news about trade fairs, organisations and workshops for example. This time we focus on the subject pre-treatment. When it comes to embroidery, digitising is a part of the job and a form of ‘pretreatment’.

Dennis Ermert, from the company Embcon, has written an article about digitising small letters. According to him it’s important to clarify the issue of the limits of small letterings with the customer. There is a formula for calculating the required minimum size of the complete design.

When you think of pre-treatment, you probably think of digital printing. It is now about five years since the technology of digital direct printing became more widely used among textile decorators and print shops. Many manufacturers have entered the market with printers. Björn Fromm explains in this issue that, finally, they meet the wishes of the clients to automate the pre-treatment process.

Scott Fresener also sees real changes in the marketplace with ink and pre-treatments.
Manufacturers don’t want to invest a lot in research and development when it comes to pre-treatments, probably because it’s a very small portion of the printed-garment world. He claims, nevertheless, that direct-to-garment printing is here to stay and maturing nicely.

Of course Fespa Fabric and Texprocess get plenty of attention in a preview. These trade shows are held on the same days, in Hamburg and Frankfurt, respectively. Both focus on textiles: Fespa Fabric highlights the garment-decoration market and apparel industry, while Texprocess makes its debut and concentrates on the garmentmanufacturing and textile-processing industry.

As for Stitch & Print International Magazine, we will be exhibiting at Fespa Fabric in Hamburg. You will find us in Hall B1, Stand 64. From 24 until 26 May we will be informing visitors about their profession by promoting our magazine. So, everyone who is searching for knowledge in the area of garment decoration and textile printing knows where to head for.

Meet us at the show and let us know if you have any interesting news for our editors.
Who knows, your machine, product, company (in the form of a report) may feature in our next issue.
See you there!
